The Experience

Join Executive Rail for an exclusive rail-based travel opportunity celebrating our nation’s founders and the brave men and women of our armed forces!

The three-day Heroes & Monuments Tour will provide 48 guests with the opportunity to ride aboard two of our faithfully restored 1940s railcars from Newport News, Williamsburg, or Richmond to Washington, DC. A variety of seating options are available for purchase aboard either our Catalpa Falls or Chester County, which will begin their journey northward from Newport News on Friday evening. Guests will enjoy in-seat drink service and the scenic views of the Virginia Peninsula from the large picture windows aboard these historic railcars. Later in the evening, all passengers will be treated to an exquisite dinner en-route prepared under the supervision of our Executive Chef Win Goodier, who is also the current president of the ACF Virginia Chefs Association.

Upon arrival in the cavernous Washington Union Station, guests will be whisked away by private motor coach to Wainwright Hall, their historic accommodations for the next two nights. This original 1906 building once served as the bachelor officers’ quarters for Fort Meyer, and it is part of the Fort Myer Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places.

On Saturday, guests will be treated to an exclusive guided behind-the-scenes tour of Arlington National Cemetery, located just a few steps from the hotel. After enjoying free time in Washington to explore the National Mall, various Smithsonian museums, and other historic sites related to the nation’s founding and guiding principles, guests will reconvene for a special nighttime double-decker bus tour of Washington’s most recognizable monuments and historic sites before being transported back to Wainwright Hall for another night of restful sleep.

Plenty of free time is available on Sunday for guests to continue their exploration of Washington before returning to Washington Union Station for the return trip southbound aboard Executive Rail’s historic railcars. Once again, Executive Chef Win Goodier’s culinary expertise will be on full display as passengers enjoy their on-board dinner experience before disembarking at Richmond, Williamsburg, or Newport News.
