Catalpa Falls (PRR #8404)

PRR-CatalpaFalls-atChicagoJuly63.jpg

Getting there is twice the fun on the Catalpa Falls, our premier dining and lounge car. This fully-restored mid-century modern beauty offers plush seating and dining space for 20 people. The all-purpose lounge and buffet galley kitchen allows for 24-hour bar and meal service.

When sun falls, it can sleep 12 people in six double bedrooms, each with its own toilet and wash basin. The Catalpa Falls has been retrofitted with the latest electronic amenities that in no way detract from its historic appeal. For travelers’ comfort, brand new shower facilities are available.

This all-purpose car makes a luxurious business and social environment, both in motion and standing still. It can be used as your local on-site hotel in the city or destination of your choice.

The car is perfect for 30 people on a day trip, or for 10 people on an overnight or long-distance excursion (typically one of the double bedrooms is occupied by the on-car gourmet chef and the porter). For groups needing to sleep more than 10 people, learn about the Chippewa Creek below.

CHIPPEWA CREEK (PRR #8369)

prr8369a.jpg

Part of the original postwar 24-car Creek series from Pullman-Standard, the Chippewa Creek is the only surviving car of its design, which features staggered windows and a unique “upstairs/downstairs” configuration. With 12 duplex single rooms and four double bedrooms, the Chippewa Creek can sleep 20 people in luxury and comfort. Once highly sought by business travelers, the spacious duplex rooms are still the largest sleeping rooms on any rail car operating in North America. William Howes, the respected railroad executive and author, has said the duplex single rooms were the largest private single-person accommodation available on any railroad. He further commented that whenever possible, he would reserve and travel between home and college in one of the duplex rooms of a Creek car.

Every room features a toilet and wash basin, with brand new shower facilities located at the end of the car. The double bedrooms have bunk bed arrangements, while the duplexes offer convertible sofabeds and writing tables. When combined with the Catalpa Falls, the two cars can easily accommodate overnight tour groups of up to 30 people in the glamour and luxury of yesteryear.

Samuel Rea (PRR #8426)

The observation car is everyone’s favorite car. With 2 drawing rooms, 1 compartment, 1 bedroom, a buffet, and an observation/lounge section, it was designated the Broadway Limited’s “protect” observation in case the Tower View or Mountain View were shopped. With such a historic appeal, the Samuel Rea pairs well with any of our other cars, and includes all the same features and amenities. Instantly add sleeping/meeting/socializing space for up to 8-10 people for any overnight trip you are planning.
